Wat Amarintharam, located on the south of Khlong Bangkok Noi, is ranked as the 3rd-class royal temple of the "Woravihara" grade.
Built in 2200 BE, Wat Amarintharam was originally called "Wat Bangwanoi" and it together with Wat Bang Wa Yai (Wat Rakhang) was taken as a specific pair of temples. In 2325 BE, the king sanctioned the temple's exclusive use for Buddhism. After Taksin, the King of Thonburi, established the city Thonburi as the new capital, Wat Amarintharam had become a principle temple in the west of the capital. Taksin heralded Wat Amarintharam the 3rd-class royal temple of the "Rat Woravihara" grade, which was upgraded in 2458 BE to the 3rd-class "Woravihara" grade.
Phra Pi Sanphattanakit (Dharma name: Panya Panyawaro) serves as the abbot from 2534 BE to the present.
