【Thai Monks】Kruba Boondet

Kruba Boondet (Thai: ครูบาบุญเดช) is a great monk of Wat Ban Pa, Phitsanulok. He has been dedicated to promoting the teachings of his father Achan Phon, a Yantra-tattooing (also called "sak yant") master.

Kruba Boondet became a novice monk in Wat Hin Kong, Watthana Nakhon District, Sa Kaeo Province of eastern Thailand. Then he made an itinerary to Cambodia and learned from masters living in the Thai-Cambodian border. He had met and learned from a guru monk in Khlong Hat District, the southeasternmost district of Sa Kaeo Province.

After that, Kruba Boondet lived in Wat Sa Pan Si, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, and kept doing Dhutanga practices and ordinary meditation. In 2536 BE (AD 1993) he was ordained as a monk in Wat Huaiprap, Chonburi Province.

The next stop of Kruba Boondet was Wat Bangnanai, Bangkok, where he learned from Achan Porn (Thai: อาจารย์พร), a disciple of Achan Phon (father of Kruba Boondet).

He also left his footsteps in Uttaradit Province of northern Thailand. Living in Wat Wang Kaphi, when having free time he would go to Wat Thathong and learn from Luang Pu Thongdam, fully called Phra Nimmankowit (Thai: พระนิมมานโกวิทย์ (หลวงปู่ทองดำ)).

Kruba Boondet was repected by worshippers for his philanthropic deeds like renovating temple buildings, assitinging in ceremonies held in the temple, and helping cure people's illnesses or remove their gong tau.

Later he was invited to Wat Rai, Uttaradit, for the construction of its ubosot (ordination hall). In 2542 BE (AD 1999), Kruba Boondet served as the abbot of Wat Wang To Samakkhi Tham.
