6. Friday - Phra Paang Rum Peung
After Buddha's enlightenment, he was thinking way to universal salvation.
When he walked to the riverside, he saw four types of lotus flower.
Then he suddenly realized that there were 4 different types of people in the world.
The first type of lotus flower is those which receive sufficient sunlight and soon blossom,
which also depicts this type of people who could accept Buddhist teachings.
The second type needs sunlight and water to blossom, meaning this type of
people need time to understand Buddhist doctrine. The third type needs
strong sunlight and water to blossom but would wither. This type of people
would be hard to accept Buddhist teachings, and have no proposition and hesitate.
For the last type, they would never accept and learn dharma. However,
Buddha would never give up on any of the lotus flowers, and would use the
same standard for salvation.
The "Contemplating Buddha" (Paang Rum Peung) stands with hands resting
across the chest, the right hand covering the left. The pose implies a complete
spiritual transformation. A benevolent tranquility expresses the equanimity
obtained through Vipassana meditation. The meditative practice develops clear
seeing by training the faculties through direct experience.
