【Lucky BOBI - Thailand Buddha amulets】
In the popular Thai TV series Sao Ha (Thai: เสาร์ ๕) five main characters wear different Buddha amulets: Diaw wears Somdej, Thej wears Phra Yod Thong, Dom wears Phra Tha Kradan, Yod wears Nang Phraya, and Ding wears Phra Kring Klong Ta Kian. Somdej, among five amulets, is widely known as "King of Amulet" while other four ones are hardly heard of by most people except amulet experts.
The series began with five senior monks possessing individual martial arts, forming an alliance, and making five Buddha amulets - Somdej, Nang Phraya, Phra Yod Thong, Phra Tha Kradan, Phra Kring Klong Ta Kian - on "Sao Ha," the date Saturday 5th May, and legend has it that amulets consecrated on the exact date will be the most powerful.
The five senior monks respectively distributed five consecrated Buddha amulets, whose effects such as rigorousness, avoiding adversities and guarding the safety mainly belong to martialism, to five boys born on "Sao Ha."
Here are brief introductions of Buddha amulets appearing in this series except Somdej.
● Phra Kring Klong Ta Kian
Different from other editions of Phra Kring amulets, Phra Kring Klong Ta Kian amulets were found and preserved in Klong Takien canal area in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. By whom they were made was unknown; revealed by the scriptures on amulets, though, the time when they were made fell on the late Ayutthaya period.
The material includes soil, Whan (a kind of herb) and Bailan (Thai: ใบลาน, fan palm leaf). Its front side looks like that of Phra Kong amulet of Northern Thailand. The most distinguishable feature is the knocking sound of Canna indica seeds put inside the hollow amulet, heard when the amulet is shook. Common Phra Kring amulets make clanging sounds. Phra Kring Klong Ta Kian amulets with the knocking sound have the representatives of rigorousness and excellence in martial arts.

In addition, the amulet's pointed top looks like the claw of a bird, which had a unique effect as an anti snake venom by placing the amulet on the snakebite. However, the invaluable amulet couldn't practically be put on the wound for the amulet might be sealed in a gold case.
● Phra Yod Thong
Beneath the deity statue protrudes a stuff which enables the Phra Yod Thong to be stuck atop a flagpole. Phra Yod Thong was believed to protect the army.

● Phra Tha Kradan
Having the effect of guarding the safety for good, it is said that Phra Tha Kradan is capable of stopping the bullet from being shot out. Made from lead and iron, Phra Tha Kradan owns the feature of red eyes and slightly slanted tied-hairs. The 1st-batch Phra Tha Kradan amulets were discovered in 2440 BE from temples of Tambon Tha Kradan, Kanchanaburi Province, all U Thong Style. In 2496 BE the same edition of Phra Tha Kradan amulets was also found in Srinagarind Dam.
Phra Tha Kradan amulet often makes wearers feel combative because of its characteristic of martialism. The U Thong-style Phra Tha Kradan amulet is also believed to attract ample wealth.

● Nang Phraya
Bearing the characteristic of benevolence, Nang Phraya amulets are suitable for women. Triangular background and soil material are the features. Among the Nang Phraya amulets, the one made by Phra Wisutkasattee, queen of Phra Maha Thammaracha, the king of Ayutthaya kingdom, is acknowledged as the most well-known one and was discovered in 2444 BE in Phitsanulok Province, whose governor was not qualified for wearing this amulet because it was believed that those who wore Buddha amulets made by someone with higher hierarchy might be doomed to misfortune. The Nang Phraya amulet, therefore, was presented as a tribute to Rama V. The main effects are safety, protection of adversity, wealth attraction, and well-going lives.
