Wat Don is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Yannawa, Sathon, Bangkok.

According to the record in reign of King Rama I, Mang Chanja Phraya Dawei, a pious Buddhist devotee from Myanmar had built the temple with help from his tribe of people. They were from Dawei tribe.

Mang Chanja was actually an aristocrat in Bagan, Myanmar. He had conflict with an senior officer in Ava city of Myanmar and then he later turned to seek refuge from the King of Thailand.

King Rama I very trusted Mang chan ja. One of the reasons is Mang chan ja had successfully made the municipal king of Dawei, Myeik or Mergui and Tanintharyi turned allegiance to King of Thailand.

Besides of that, Mang chan ja had successfully brought back home the niece of King Rama I. The king’s niece was taken to Myanmar when the war between Thailand and Myanmar broke out. With the help from Mang chan ja, the niece only able to come back safely.

The King had allowed Mang chan ja and his relatives and friends to imigrate to land of Thailand and had granted him a piece of land to live. In BE2340, Mang chan ja and other devotee friends built Wat Don. As they were from Dawei tribe, the temple was later also known as Wat Dondawei.

The name of temple remained until it was changed in BE2400 by King Rama IV who had professional level in Thai language. The King had changed its name to Wat Barom Sadhol. However, many devotees still used to call it as Wat Dondawei or Wat Don Yannawa.
