On April 25, 2013, after 10 PM, a village head in Amphoe Bang Lamung, Chonburi Province, along with his son and one relative, were attacked by a gunman who pulled over the car in front of the grocery store where they were having dinner. The village head's son and relative fell in grievous harm, while the village head, although being shot on the shoulder, only suffered a slight bruise. He believed it was the Buddha amulets he's been wearing that granted the great protection.

The local police came to the grocery store, where the bloody table still sit there and the wall was studded with bullet scars. 21 bullet shells and one an HK33 rife were found 15 to 20 meters near the grocery store.

Three victims stayed in the hospital: Nikon Katkai, 44, the village head who was shot on the shoulder; Chumphon Katkai, 11, Nikon Katkai's son who got heavily hurt on the leg; and Phengsi Saensila, a 45-year-old woman, who was shot on the left leg which caused a bone fracture.

Nikon Katkai said that when he, his son, and his relative were having dinner outside of the store, a man about 35 to 40 years old pulled his car in the front of the store and wanted to buy two bottles of beer. No sooner had the man paid the beer price than he grasped a rifle and began shooting. Nikon Katkai's son and relative were shot and sent to the hospital.

Nikon Katkai had a small pain in his left shoulder and thought he got shot, but there was in fact only a slight bruise. He attributed his safety to the protection of Buddha amulets he's been wearing: the 2nd -batch Luang Pu Thuat Wat Chang Hai amulet, Pattani Province; Luang Phor Chom Wat Pong amulet (backside: forhead skin of tiger), Chonburi Province; and Luang Pu Tim Wat Lahanrai amulet, in which Luang Pu Tim's robe was added.

The investigation showed that the gunshot was triggered by a real estate-related dispute: Nikon Katkai's mother-in-law sold a 36-million-baht land. The venture capitalist issued her a demand draft, but had it credited to the account of his own firstly to show that there were abundant funds for the construction work. When the capitalist had to return the money, there only remained 26-million bahts, hence he mortgaged a land for a 10-million loan, while the land simply cost about 3 million bahts. The two parties were in a lawsuit. And this dispute set off the gunshot case.

Surviving well in this disaster, Nikon Katkai sincerely appreciated the blessing of Buddha amulets.
